Timeless Trends for Autumn/Winter 2024

I’ve written before about the importance of creating a wardrobe that stands the test of time, and about the value of capsule pieces in stress-free outfit planning. However, this doesn’t mean that you should ignore the trends that capture your attention; in fact, an on-trend piece often pairs beautifully with more timeless pieces, creating a wardrobe that feels current without the chaos.

This autumn/winter season, catwalks are blending comfort with style, bringing a modern twist to timeless shapes, making it easy to stay chic and cosy as the days grow shorter. It’s important to remain true to your own personal style, and each of the trends I have chosen are adaptable for most people, from statement to subtle.

Here are the six standout trends I’m loving right now:

Burgundy

Burgundy is popular on the catwalks this year, and it’s easy to see why designers are loving it - there is a hue for everyone, making it an easy go-to for a luxury look. A burgundy bag or pair of boots paired with black, cream, or camel creates a stunning, high-end feel. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, try combining it with powder blue for an unexpected but beautiful contrast.

Denim on Denim

Double denim is back, and I love how easy it is to incorporate into the every day. A denim jumpsuit or a maxi dress is a simple way to wear this trend, and fits in with most occasions. If separates are more your style, try pairing a denim blazer or cropped jacket with jeans. And don’t be afraid to match your denim shades – the days of ‘double denim shame’ are long gone!

Faux Fur

Would it really be autumn without faux fur? From oversized maxi coats to shorter jackets, faux fur can be statement or subtle, according to preference. I find it incredibly versatile – perfect for dressing up or down. Whether it’s a statement coat or a simple fur-lined collar, faux fur is a must for combining style with warmth this season.

Leopard Print

Leopard print is here again this year, and I couldn’t be more excited. Whether you love it or hate it, this print seems to stay in favour, evolving with every season. I’ve seen leopard print coats from Prada to high street, and it’s clear this trend isn’t going anywhere. If you’re unsure about how to wear it, start small – a leopard print bag or shoes are great for adding a pop of personality to any outfit.

Suited and Booted

Suits don’t have to be corporate. This autumn, designers have been moving away from tradition, giving suits a contemporary twist. Think oversized blazers, unexpected accessories, and even ties! I’m particularly drawn to how the structured suit is being softened with unique cuts and fabrics.

Statement Collars

Big, bold collars were all over the runways this season, from Supriya Lele to Acne Studios. Whether it’s a pie-crust collar or a dramatic high neck, a statement collar adds a touch of sophistication to any outfit. I love pairing these with high-waisted jeans or a simple dress to really let the collar shine.

I hope these trends inspire you as much as they’ve inspired me. If you’re looking for more inspiration, please check out my moodboard below, showcasing some of my favourite pieces of the season….
