Good Skin: The Foundation Of Beautiful Looking Make-up

Your make-up is going to look even more beautiful and last even longer on healthy skin.  Take time to truly understand your skin type (- visit a beautician if you feel you need assistance) and focus on one or two areas that you would like to improve, maybe that’s reduction of pore visibility, reducing dryness or reducing the appearance of under-eye dark circles. 

Healthy eating, drinking lots of water and following a skincare routine specific to your needs will work wonders!

I’m not a qualified Beautician but from the research I’ve done and the Beauticians that I’ve spoken with my advice would be to make time to follow, as a minimum, the following steps:

1.  CLEANSE AND TONE – EVERY DAY
Cleansing is the first step in a good daily skincare routine.  Gently cleanse in the evening to remove dead skin cells, makeup, oil and debris. When your skin is clean it allows other skincare products to work better.

Do not use cleansing facial wipes, the effects are too drying to be used every day.  

Toner softens and calms skin while removing the last traces of makeup, oil and debris. Toners can also hydrate when used immediately after cleansing.

2.  MOISTURISE – EVERY DAY
Eye cream – can reduce the appearance of puffiness, smooth the look of fine lines, brighten dark circles and replenish moisture. The skin around the eyes is delicate and thin; it loses moisture rapidly so needs to be treated with care.  Gently pat the cream along the ocular bone (– around the outer edge of the eye). Ideally, use eye cream twice a day – morning and evening.

Face moisturiser – provides daily protection from the elements, can help combat the signs of ageing and can replenish moisture.  Gently apply the cream in the morning all over the face, avoiding the delicate eye area.  Use a separate one for night-time.

3.  PROTECTION FROM UVA AND UVB RAYS
Ensure your sun protection cream is protecting you against, as a minimum, UVA and UVB rays and apply every day.

4.  EXFOLIATE – AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK
Gently exfoliate your face (and lips, which may need their own specific product) to remove dead skin cells, thus allowing new skin cells to rise to the surface all fresh and vibrant.

It’s important to stress here that the exfoliator MUST be gentle, you do not want to over-damage the skin or aggravate it by using a product that is too harsh.

If you wish to take your skin care routine up a notch, then consider adding in the following steps:

SERUM
Serum – delivers targeted ingredients depending on the type – such as anti-ageing, brightening or soothing. Serums also deliver key ingredients that help refresh, rejuvenate and renew the skin’s appearance. Apply daily – morning and/or evening – after cleansing and toning and before moisturiser, a little goes a long way.

FACE MASK / FACIALS
Regularly applying a face mask at home or going to a beauty salon for regular facials baths your skin in the ingredients it craves most.  Give it time and you will see a wonderful complexion transformation.  It’s also a great excuse to take a little time out for you - something we should all be doing as often as possible.

PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS:
At the age of 47 years my skin type is dehydrated, with occasional break-outs of hormonal blemishes. These are products that I’ve tried and tested on my skin and have found them to work well and they’ve helped to achieve the desired results.
